What Will I Learn?

Over the year, pupils will use the skills from the previous year to gain an experience of different genres of performance. Such as Comedy, Physical Theatre and Melodrama.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Through practical assessment at the end of every unit of work and the completion of their assessment booklets.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

  • Pupils will work in groups a lot thus resulting in the development of key life skills such as negotiation and communication.
  • Evaluative tasks reflecting on others’ and their own work.
  • Practical tasks that will develop self-confidence.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

Will build on the skills taught in Year 7 so pupils now have an understanding of key skills and a variety of different performance styles.

Year 9

What Will I Learn?

This year, pupils will be given the opportunity to perform to an external audience to develop performance skills as well as working as part of a team in a highly pressured environment.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Through practical assessment at the end of every unit of work and the completion of their assessment booklets.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

  • Pupils will work in groups a lot thus resulting in the development of key life skills such as negotiation and communication.
  • Evaluative tasks reflecting on others’ and their own work.
  • Practical tasks that will develop self-confidence.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

Pupils will now have developed the necessary skill set to cope with the GCSE Drama course

Year 10

What Will I Learn?

Pupils will learn how to create a piece of work from a given stimulus and key performance skills. Whilst also developing key life skills such as negotiation, communication, self-confidence and an awareness of to present and articulate themselves both vocally and physically.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Pupils will be assessed throughout the year against the GCSE Drama curriculum.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

  • Theatre visits to watch performances to develop pupils understanding.
  • Group work to devise and create pieces as well as independent completion of written coursework under controlled conditions.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

During the summer term pupils will complete the first unit of work for the GCSE so prior to this will be completing mock units to identify and develop the necessary skills.

Year 11

What Will I Learn?

Pupils will complete the second unit of work during the Autumn term completing just before Christmas. This is a unit based on a script.

The final unit the pupils have to complete is the performance of a piece to an external examiner based on a given topic from the exam board.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Pupils will be assessed throughout the year against the GCSE Drama curriculum and by an external examiner.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

  • Theatre visits to watch performances to develop pupils understanding.
  • Group work to devise and create pieces as well as independent completion of written coursework under controlled conditions.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

At the end of this course pupils will have gained a great deal of subject specific knowledge that will enable them to complete further study in this area. 
They will also have developed key life skills that are crucial to succeed in today’s current competitive market.
