  • How to make a range of dishes from each section of the Eatwell Plate
  • Further evaluation techniques

  • What are the current healthy guidelines?
  • How to modify recipes to meet the current healthy guidelines.

Adapting recipes to meet healthy eating guidelines  is a key  element in the Yr 10 controlled assessment.

Year 10

What Will I Learn?

The main elements of this year’s course are:

  • Nutrients & their functions
  • Physical functions of ingredients
  • Sustainable design within the context of food & the food industry.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Controlled assessment will be undertaken which will account for 30% of your final grade.
The theoretical content will be assessed through an externally set exam taken at the end of Yr 11

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

  • Carrying out practical tasks to build upon skills.
  • Working on individual extended projects which combine designing and making.
  • Group work.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

Yr 10 practical skills will be built upon in Yr 11 to enable you to make quality food products.
Your knowledge of nutrition will also underpin much of your Yr 11 course.

Year 11

What Will I Learn?

This unit builds on the skills and abilities developed in Yr 10.  In this unit, you will work with a different topic and focus on developing products for a particular target group. You will need to demonstrate your ability to plan, develop creative and original products and carry out a range of practical activities.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Controlled assessment will be undertaken which will account for 30% of your final grade.
The theoretical content will be assessed through an externally set exam taken at the end of Yr 11

This GCSE leads naturally to the ‘A’ Level Food Technology course. This is particularly suited to those considering a career within the very wide & varied food industry.
