Year 8

What Will I Learn?

In Year 8 you will cover three topic areas: Meeting People, Leisure, Food and Drink.

How Will I Be Assessed?

At the end of each unit you will be assessed in all four skill areas, listening, speaking, reading and writing.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

You will now acquire more skills to deal with longer sentences and you will be expected to reproduce written paragraphs and be able to take part in an extended dialogue

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

This will help to prepare you for Year 9 where you will be starting the FCSE course, which takes a similar format to your Year 8 course.

Year 9

What Will I Learn?

In Year 9 you start your externally assesses AQA FCSE course. You will study three more topic areas: Holidays, Home Town and Environment and Education and Future Career.

How Will I Be Assessed?

At the end of each unit you will be assessed in all four skill areas, listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will all be aiming for National Curriculum Level 6.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

You will now acquire more skills to help you with all elements of your language learning. You will be expected to reproduce longer, written texts from memory and be able to take part in an extended dialogue giving at least eight pieces of information.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

This will help to prepare you for Years 10 and 11, where you will be starting the AQA GCSE course. You will cover a wider range of topic areas in greater depth.

Year 10

What Will I Learn?

In Year 10 you will cover the following topics: Health; Relationships and Choices; Free time and the media;  School/college and future plans and Current and future jobs.

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will have assessments in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. There will be a formal written and spoken controlled assessment.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

By this stage you should be able to deal with a variety of language and structures in a variety of contexts. You will be helped to vary and enrich your use of language along with being more competent in using a dictionary and verb tables.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

By the end of Year 10 you should feel more confident with a wide range of lexical items and grammatical structures. You should be more confident talking and writing in the target language.

Year 11

What Will I Learn?

In Year 11 you will cover the following topics: Holidays; Home and Local Area; Environment

How Will I Be Assessed?

As in Year 10, you will have assessments in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. There will be a formal written and spoken controlled assessment and external exams in reading and listening in the Summer Term.

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Memory strategies, using a dictionary, accessing various resources such as verb tables should now be firmly embedded, equipping you with the necessary skills to deal with your final exams.

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

By the end of Year 11 you should now have a sound language learning base to either exploit later on in life in learning another language or extending your current linguistic competence.  If you have a real flair for languages you should now consider the next step by choosing French at A level.
