How Will I Be Assessed?

Each unit will have two assessed pieces of written work, completed in class and at home, and an end of unit test

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

The key concepts from Year 7 are built on, and more challenging concepts added, preparing for GCSE study beginning in Year 9

Year 9

What Will I Learn?

We start GCSE in Year 9 by following a module of Biology, Chemistry and Physics covering the fundamental core science of the national curriculum - we follow OCR Gateway Science

How Will I Be Assessed?

Each unit will have three assessed pieces of written work, completed in class and at home, and an end of unit test

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

The bridging units fill in the gaps for GCSE, and are particularly aimed at developing practical skills needed for GCSE controlled assessment, to allow success in Year 10

Year 10

What Will I Learn?

More modules of Biology Chemistry and Physics covering the fundamental core science of the national curriculum – we follow OCR Gateway ‘Science’

How Will I Be Assessed?

Two exams (one Biology, Chemistry and Physics module in each exam) and a Controlled Assessment which is a Science investigation for dual sciences. The triple sciences have to be accessed at the end of Year 11

What Different Types of Activities Will I Do Over Time to Help Me Learn?

Practicals, demonstrations, ICT. Practice q, practice tests, animations, reasoning, explaining and thinking activities

How Will This Help Me to Progress to the Next Year or Key Stage?

Prepare for Year 11 – B is needed for A Level Sciences

Year 11

What Will I Learn?

2 further modules of Biology Chemistry and Physics covering more complex areas – we follow OCR Gateway ‘Additional Science’

Triple Scientists do 2 more extra modules covering more areas in more depth – three GCSEs are gained one each in B C P

How Will I Be Assessed?

2 exams (one B C and P module in each exam) and a Controlled Assessment which is a Science investigation
