Copleston High School

The Resilience Curriculum is a three year programme of study aimed at preparing students for life after school. Pupils complete the Resilience Curriculum in Key Stage Four alongside their GCSE subjects.

Pupils cannot opt to take the Resilience Curriculum, the decision about who will take the course is made by Leaders of Learning in conjunction with parents and carers.

The Curriculum:

  • During Year 9 pupils take units including climbing, mindfulness, problem solving, preparing for and running a Christmas Fayre, sailing, growing vegetables and flowers, garden maintenance and restoring and repairing a bicycle.
  • During Year 10 pupils take units including preparing for and running a Christmas Fayre, sailing, mindfulness, problem solving, growing vegetables and flowers, garden maintenance, preparing for work experience, tobogganing, archery and wood work.
  • During Year 11 pupils complete qualifications in First Aid and Food Hygiene.  Pupils also take units on interview skills, writing a CV, applying to further education, how to revise, problem solving, managing stress and exercise for fitness.

Assessment:

  • The Resilience Curriculum ensures that pupils’ progress in the skills they will need in later life are at the heart of the curriculum. 
  • Assessments will be carried out each term after projects have been completed.
  • Pupils’ progress in leadership, teamwork, presenting their ideas, listening, problem solving, staying positive and aiming high is assessed either by themselves or the teacher to ensure that they are making progress towards their target. 

 

Feedback:

  • Feedback on what pupils need to do to progress will take the form of class discussion and evaluation.
  • One:One meetings will also take place after assessment where targets will be agreed with pupils for the next term.
