We strive to provide our students with encounters of the workplace and employers. Below you will find some recent examples of ways that employers have been involved with supporting our students.
In February 2021 local employer BT held a virtual apprenticeships and careers event for students year 11-13, where students heard from former Copleston students and learnt about the routes they took to join the company. Employees shared their skills, interests and ambitions and a wide range of guidance and resources were shared with students to help them understand the routes in to BT and the range of jobs available.
The school benefits from the support of two Enterprise Advisers who volunteer their time to be an extra line of support and help with strategic planning of careers to help make it meaningful to the world of work. Our EA’s are able to pull on their network to help with career days and help operationally as well.
Mike Dawe has a background in digital media and is a consultant in education and communication, primarily overseas. Mike can provide a case study to inspire students. His area of expertise is ‘skills in demand’. Yolanda Achlada’s background is in HR mainly within banking and insurance and she is providing coaching and mentoring for students who would benefit from additional guidance.
Since June 2020 The Experience Team at Speakers for Schools have facilitated virtual work experience placements for our students with companies such as Morgan Sindall Construction, Jacobs, Haworth and Carmody Groake. The Experience Team connect students with industry leading employers, opening young people’s eyes to the possibilities ahead of them. The programme is run through a simple, safe-guarded portal, giving students access to a wide range of work experience opportunities and employers the chance to diversify their early talent pipelines and meet their social mobility goals.
Twice weekly, students have the opportunity to view livestream episodes discussing career journeys and different professions with a variety of guests, from the world of work. This programme is facilitated by The New Anglia Enterprise Adviser Network. Students can watch live and pose questions to the guests however all episodes are saved and can be viewed later. The links to these episodes can be found on the IAG section of the school website.
The New Anglia Enterprise Adviser Network has also recorded a selection of employer interviews covering careers such as cabin crew, financial services, park manager and accounts assistant. If you’d like some careers inspiration, check out the videos!

Future First have recorded a selection of videos interviewing Copleston Alumni, which give students an insight in to the pathways that former students have taken to get to the jobs they currently have. The interviews cover a wide range of sectors – from dance teacher, to IT project manager and paramedic.
Morgan Sindall, BDO, Willis Tower Watson, HSBC, BT and Delta Pharmacy share apprenticeship and employment opportunities directly with the school, providing virtual flyers and links for students to apply. Please get in touch if you would like to share your opportunities with our students.
