Music has an important role to play in the life of the school as is witnessed in the number of informal rock bands, singers, instrumentalists who are called upon regularly to perform in assemblies, Drama productions and other occasions. Many of our pupils are involved in the county ensembles in addition to those in school. The school Orchestra is made up of the Wind Band, String Orchestra and percussionists. It is usually assembled for specific events for performances in school and in the wider community including the Year 6 Carol Concert (in collaboration with our feeder schools) and the main school Carol Service at St Andrew’s Church in Britannia Road.
The year ends with our Soiree Musicale – a massively popular informal concert which showcases music from all over the school. Expect to see soloists with Ukuleles, Harps, Guitars, Recorder Consorts, String Quartets, Steel Pans, African Drums, Jazz Ensembles, Folk Arrangements and Rock Bands in addition to all the ensembles listed above. The evening ends with a finale that aims to involve every performer who has taken part elsewhere in the evening.
