Copleston High School

At Copleston, we want to build and encourage effective study habits and a working routine that will equip students for higher education and set the same expectations as they would find within the work environment. We therefore expect students to be in school for a full working day, from 8.30 until 3.10. All students begin the day with The Apex, a bespoke programme of tutor time activities.

Copleston  Sixth Form provides immense support not just in your subjects but also towards post-A level plans. The enrichment provided by the school is guiding and helpful as it allows the students to focus on their future opportunities. - Year 13 student

Alongside their timetabled lessons, students complete a programme of timetabled Enrichment which extends the work done in tutor time.  Students are expected to use their non-timetabled lessons for independent study, and they receive support to work out how to use these appropriately. To facilitate this, we provide a wide range of study spaces, all of which are equipped with PCs or laptops. Students can also connect their own devices to the school network if they wish.  Some students prefer the silent working environment of the Learning Support Centre in the main school building. Others choose the smaller, quieter workspaces on both levels, whilst the larger, more open downstairs study area is a popular choice for collaborative working. In addition to having use of all the main school eating areas, students have access to the hugely popular Sixth Form Cafe throughout the day, to fuel their study with delicious hot and cold snacks and drinks.

For more images of our study spaces, please see our Sixth Form Gallery page.

Students have a wide range of resources to support them with their studies. We subscribe to Uplearn which is a revision package used by many top-performing schools, and Unifrog for support with careers and higher education applications. All subjects provide access to resources via our SharePoint pages and some staff also share resources via their own websites or YouTube channels. We also provide study skills and revision training for students, both internally and via external providers.

At Copleston, we have numerous resources at our disposal to further our pursuit of knowledge, such as the LRC and designated computer rooms. These areas allow us to study and conduct further research outside of the classroom during allocated study periods. - Year 13 student

There is always available space for private study not to mention a lovely cafe for great food and drink to help focus on your task. - Year 12 student
