Copleston High School

University Liaison

We have many links to Universities that support us and our students throughout their two year programme. Universities such as University of Suffolk, University of Essex and University of Nottingham are regular contributors to our Sixth Form community.

In Year 12, all of our Sixth Form students are invited to attend the UCAS Conference at the University of Suffolk. Our school day closes early to enable students to attend UoS and visit stalls from almost every University in the country, enquire about courses, pick up literature and ask questions. The University of Nottingham send delegates to Copleston every year to talk about personal statements, applying to University and student finance. This begins in Year 12 but continues into Year 13 as we begin our process of University applications. Finally, we are a School Membership Partner to University of Essex, who provide a fund for departments within our Sixth Form to travel and visit the University of Essex to take part in subject specific events. Notable examples include events for our Economics and Politics students, as well as a Theology and RE focused day and a Business / Marketing induction day.

All of our Year 12 students research Universities through our extensive Enrichment programme, as well as through their registration sessions on our APEX programme. In Year 13, students interested in applying to University spend the first half term going through their applications, leading to our pre-Christmas application deadline. In 2024, 101 students from Copleston Sixth Form have applied to Universities, with 4 receiving offers from Oxford & Cambridge, and many more receiving offers from Russell Group Universities.
