“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.” – Harper Lee
Reading is an essential tool that helps us access and understand the information and world around us. But sometimes it can feel like a chore, or something you do when a teacher asks you.
At Copleston we want every student to love reading and appreciate its worth. This is partly due to life chances- 25% of 15 year olds have a reading age of 12 or under (GL Assessment Report 2020) which will make accessing exam papers more challenging- but also because a love of reading is good for self esteem and character development.
Year 7 and Reading
One initiative we have recently begun is in conjunction with The Book Trust and the Book Buzz scheme. We have signed up to this project which means all students in year 7 can choose from a range of books to take home and enjoy at home.
