Copleston Culture
Our Copleston Culture programme, studied by all Year 9 students, provides a unique opportunity for students to explore, discuss and learn about important themes, issues and debates that shape the world around them. Through literature, poetry and personal narratives, students develop their understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion whilst exploring topics such as race, religion, gender equality, mental health, representation and access to education.
The course is taught through a series of enquiry-based lessons that encourage discussion, debate and critical thinking. Students explore a range of perspectives and lived experiences, making connections between the texts they study and contemporary issues in society. Through questioning, analysis and reflection, students develop empathy, cultural awareness and the confidence to express informed opinions respectfully.
The aim of Copleston Culture is to encourage students to think critically about the world around them, challenge assumptions and consider different viewpoints. Through the exploration of diverse voices and experiences, students gain a deeper understanding of identity, equality, inclusion and their role as active citizens in modern society. This is an exciting and distinctive course that makes a valuable contribution to students' personal development and preparation for life beyond school.
