Year 6 Transition Programme
Welcome to our 2026 Year 6 transition programme. We are very much looking forward to meeting our newest students and their families!
Parents will be contacted by letter with the most up to date information about the programme, but below, you will find the following information to support you and your child with navigating this exciting next step.
- A video from previous Year 7 students telling you all about their first year at Copleston.
- A copy of our 2026 'Moving Up To Copleston' booklet. All students will receive a printed copy of this during the induction process.
- A timeline of dates (please check any letters directly from Copleston for the most up to date information).
The primary liaison team consists of: Mrs Ross (Vice Principal), Mrs Naseri (Leader of Learning for Year 7/Primary Liaison Co-ordinator), Mrs Lloyd (SENCo) and Mr Palmer (Designated Safeguarding Lead). We will be working with you, your child and their school to prepare for your child’s entry to Copleston in September.

All students will receive a copy of this during their induction. It is best viewed full screen and can be printed or downloaded using the menu buttons.
Timeline of important dates
April - June: The primary liaison team will visit each Primary School to introduce themselves and meet the pupils. Parents/carers have an opportunity to contribute to information gathering via the ‘Getting to Know You’ booklet. Deadline for completion of the ‘Getting to Know You’ Booklet is Friday 8 May. In addition, the primary liaison team will speak to teachers of each Year 6 pupil about attainment, learning styles and specific information needed to cater for each individual’s needs.
June 2026: Invitation to Induction Days (see below) issued to Parents/Carers
May - June: Mrs Lloyd (SENCo) to visit Year 6 pupils and teachers, where necessary.
June: All incoming Year 7 students will be allocated to either the Y half or the X half of the year group.
The Y half will study French through to the end of Year 8.
The X half will study Spanish through to the end of Year 8.
If, for any valid reason, a student wishes to study a specific language, there is some flexibility. We will, of course, do our best to accommodate this where possible, in collaboration with the Year 7 Leader of Learning. If you have a preference for your son/daughter to study a particular language, you should write explaining the specific reason (for instance, it may be the first language of the household or of a parent) and send via email to mail@copleston.suffolk.sch.uk by Monday 1 June.
Induction Days Wednesday 24 June and Thursday 25 June FOR ALL SCHOOLS – NEW DATES
The induction days will start at 8.30 a.m. prompt (arrival at Main School entrance) and will end at 2.50 p.m. Pupils will have a series of lessons designed to give them an insight into learning at secondary school.
Both Induction Days: All pupils will be given a free school lunch although they can bring their own packed lunch if they wish.
Primary Schools will inform us which pupils receive free school meals.
If your child has specific food allergies/dietary requirements, for example, gluten free bread, please can you email the canteen directly at catering@copleston.suffolk.sch.uk
Pupils should bring pens, pencils, ruler etc. Primary school uniform must be worn. Pupils will need their current PE Kit on the first induction day together with sun hat, sun cream and water.
Thursday 25 June: Year 6 Parents’/Carers’ Evening at 6 p.m. in the Sports Hall – NEW DATE
The aim of this evening is to inform parents/carers about how they can help prepare their child for secondary school. We will go through some of the key areas such as uniform and expectations. The Year 7 Parents’/Carers’ Information Guide can be accessed below. that provides detailed information about what you need to know, to support your son/daughter through their time at Copleston. Some printed copies will be available at the Year 6 Parents’/Carers’ Evening.
Friday 17 July: End of Term for students.
Monday 20 July: PD Day for staff only (Disaggregated)
Tuesday 1 / Wednesday 2 September: PD DAYS – staff only
Thursday 3 September: Year 6 start as Year 7 at Copleston High School. Arrival at 8.15 a.m. ready to line up by 8.25 a.m. Gates shut at 8.20 am, when all students then enter via the late gate, to the left of main reception. Full Copleston school uniform to be worn.
